Message from the president
A sustainable timber industry is our goal.
We support the natural environment and employment of mountain regions and work to build a company brimming with vitality.
Today's mountain forests are in peril. We must do everything we can to achieve sustainability and restore them to health.
There have been periods throughout Japanese history that have seen the tremendous use of lumber.
To begin with, there was the ancient period, from around 600 to 850AD, when the Court moved the Imperial capital. The building of such ancient capitals as Kyoto and Nara used enormous amounts of old-growth trees and young trees.
Then, conflict during the Warring States period to Edo from around 1570 to 1670 burned countless castles and homes to the ground that were replaced by newly built castles and homes. This era used a great deal of building materials, most notably large amounts of firewood. Finally, during the period including World War Two from around 1930 to 1950, vast amounts of lumber were used for rebuilding and restoration. Later on, this led to lumber shortages and builders began to use readily available foreign lumber. Even today, Japan depends on foreign sources for more than 70% of its lumber. It is no overstatement to say that these developments have brought about a crisis for Japan's forests.
As a business in the timber industry we use these forest resources systematically and efficiently. We understand that our business depends on building a lumber industry with a foundation that will serve future generations.
As a company doing business in the mountains of Kochi Prefecture, we aspire to be a company that provides products originating from the forests of Kochi not only for Japan but the entire world guided by a dedication to restoring and fully using local forest resources .
Truly, "in the mountain, not in the mountain".
